AKA Press Days.
Do you like what I did there?
I do apologise, gentle readers, if you were anticipating posts on the press days I have attended. Firstly I keep forgetting when they’re on (I need a diary), secondly I keep falling asleep at inopportunate times. This is not because I’m extremely lazy, which is something no-one can accuse me of, but it’s because I am just getting over the flu and have no idea how I caught it.
I haven’t been working in this fashion game very long (about 6 or so months) but I have come in leaps and bounds from just my initial fashion blog posts. But I am getting my name out there, and meeting lots of fabbo people and most importantly getting to touch lots of beautiful clothes. (MMM SILK)
I will write a short summary of the press days I have attended so far, and there will be more posts to come, on a more regular basis.
Also London based fans (haha fans, I made a joke) – keep this Sunday free. That’s all I’m saying now. Keep the eyes peeled, and I will enlighten you tomorrow.
1. Jena Theo
Jena Theo are design duo Jenny Holmes and Dimitris Theocharidis who won Fashion Fringe 2009 and rightly so, because their clothing is simply beautiful. I was lucky enough to be invited to their AW10 show, and had tears in my eyes, I was that moved. It was also as Jenny told me, the music was meant to invoke emotion. You sneaky Susans.
Getting to see the collection up, close and personal took me back, and I love touching the clothes, feeling them, smelling them, and seeing their sculptural mohair creations. That’s probably what I loved most when I was the fashion assistant at Wallpaper*, I was a child in a candy store, and spent most of my time reverently arranging them and packing them neatly.
Jenny and Theo are extremely lovely and well deserved winners in everyone’s opinions and I look forward especially to their SS11 show. Also I was being good and declined to take a cupcake.
2. Esthethica @ Somerset House
I was disappointed that Livia Firth didn’t bring her husband with her. In the courtyard at Somerset House, there’s a fountain that Lalita ran through. I wanted Colin Firth to emerge, dripping and glorious. *___________*
Anyway.
estethica is the BFC’s eco sustainable initiative. Now in its seventh season, it has evolved to become the epicentre for London’s ethical fashion industry; the success of this initiative, the strongest of its kind, is evident in its rapid growth; from its first season of 13 designers, nine new labels joined for SS10 making estethica a collective of 28 designers.
Got to see lots of fantastic eco brands including Tara Starlet, a favourite of mine, a mother and daughter team who are known for recycling vintage clothes, Ada Zanditon, whose feather boots I used in my Double editorial and a Swedish brand called MAXJENNY who made kaleidoscopic coats from recycled plastic bottles, wonderful.
It was extremely insightful to have such a varied panel of Baroness Lola Young, Charty Durrant, Laura Bailey, Livia Firth, Vera Boudmilija, and Yasmin Sewell talk about their views on sustainable eco fashion and participate in a Q&A session with the audience, one question which was asked by a student was about shifting the high street towards sustainability which is something that I’m extremely passionate about.
Freebies included Aveda Shampoo and Conditioner, body lotion, and many many cupcakes, however someone sat on my second one, which was good, because I had already ate one. Aveda was also offering 15 minute massages. ALAS, someone was in front of me and I was running late, oh woe is me.
May I also add that Laura Bailey was looking hot to trot, damn mama!
3. Felicities Press Reception
Felicities look after a lot of young emerging talent in London, and many of the shows at Vauxhall Fashion Scout were their designers. I’ve worked with them on my last shoot and got to see their whole range and meet the designers today (yes a post on a press reception on the same day!) at The Hoxton Factory on Ebenezer St.
Met Lako Bukia who is a Georgian designer who makes this sharp, scultural planes of dresses which I knew when I spotted them in the showroom that they’d be perfect for Alter Egos and got to see many of the gorgeous pieces from other designers such as Jacob Kimmie and Kamola up close.
migh-T by Kumiko Atari was a brand I came across at the Felicities reception where if it was a person, I’d squeal how cute it was and poke it. I stayed well away from the designer, sorry Kumiko, I wasn’t ignoring you, I just didn’t want to scare you. Her AW10 collection is called ‘Space Sweets’ and had this badman poncho that looked just like a doughnut…

Alas no time to get my nails done OR a hand massage (oh woe is me x 2 ) but keep an eye out for a guest post on a fellow blog about my beauty swag.
