Prabal Gurung for Target Event for NYFW

Prabal Gurung for Target Launch

Twas the night before NYFW, and this lady blogger was not being her usual antisocial self and decided to attend events. When this invite dropped into my inbox I was all:

Jonah Hill Happy Scream

I am rather fond of prints, and Prabal Gurung is one of my utmost favourite collections to see every season. I’m usually very leery of high street collabs, I have a Target x Mulberry bag which the strap broke, which showed that it pretty much had been stapled on, but then I also purchased the Band of Outsiders cashmere hats from the Neiman Marcus x Target collab and they were fantastic, although the overall collection wasn’t well received. So it’s a mixed bag really.

Target has really been stepping up their fashion game of late, from the High Fashion ads for their Everyday Collection to pushing Target Style, their hitting all bases social campaign. This event was no less than what I would have expected, and much more than I ever expected. Target transformed Pier 57 into an indoor fairground complete with rides, a cinema showing the campaign film starring Olivia Thirlby, the face of the collection, photo booth, games where you could win Target vouchers, speciality drinks, a fortune teller, various food trucks, a stilt lady with candy floss on her legs, rides that actually you were allowed to ride which I stayed away from for fear of throwing up the dumplings, mini fish taco, and whoopie pie I ate.

A special live performance from Ne-Yo ended the evening, since the inspiration for this collection was LOVE, and who does the best love R’n'B love songs of this generation?

Laziest photo taking ever. I do like Ne-Yo but I don’t like crowds.

My idol and love of my life Rashida Jones, Carey Mulligan and that girl from ANTM who was in Crazy, Stupid, Love were also there. I tried to sneak a picture of Rashida but bloody Just Jared got in the way so this is my picture.

When the Ann’s away, the mice get perms.

Most importantly WE WERE ALLOWED TO PURCHASE THE COLLECTION BEFORE ALL THE PLEBS  GENERAL PUBLIC. I’m looking forward to all these press turning up to Lincoln Center wearing the same jacket. Not all of the collection was there, such as the sandals in different colourways.

I purchased the dress that Olivia Thirlby was walking around in, because the top of my choice had sold out. I was quite impressed. Some of the things were a little too tacky for my liking, the high sheen factor of artificial materials will do that, but the majority of the items felt great, nice and weighty and finished rather well. I also mused over the red sandals but I was on the fence about it as I preferred the black and white ones in the first place (which are a Target.com exclusive), and some of the soles were unfinished, so I didn’t purchase.

Short-sleeve dress in First Date print and black, $39.99; wedge sandals in Apple red, $29.99

Alas this dress does not fit over my ample bosom, so I have to return it. Such is life. But on the whole, the collection is pretty mint. Son, I am not disappoint.

Prabal Gurung for Target launches in stores and on Target.com on February 10th 2013.
Prices range from $12.99 (approx £9)to $199.99 (approx £130)

Hello Lover: Tom Ford to open first London flagship store in 2013

Few things perk me up on a Monday morning, and checking my email is definitely not one of them. Amid the flurry of press releases squawking about another another reality telly “star” wearing some random designer (really, you’d think that it’d cheapen your brand, non?) was the news that the designer that I’ve wanted to slip it to since I was a teenager in short unflattering trousers is opening his first London flagship on Sloane Street in 2013.

US designer Tom Ford will open his first flagship store in the UK on Sloane Street, reinforcing the street’s reputation as the leading luxury retail destination in the capital.

Tom Ford‘s new flagship store is going to be situated on the Cadogan Estate’s new 201-206 Sloane Street development. Luxury brands already on the street include Chanel, Gucci and Louis Vuitton, while Alberta Ferretti recently acquired a 6,000 sq ft unit within 201-206 Sloane Street for a new concept store.

Obviously it’s not like I can afford anything (or probably fit into) anything from Mr Ford but isn’t this exciting?? Myself and Jam and go skulk outside in the dream that Tom Ford will kick dust in our eyes. Oh to have the dust from Tom Ford’s heels kicked into my eyes while I get manhandled away by his security…

All Navy Everything

I know black on black on black is the ultimate colour combination but I really do like navy. After years of wearing all black, I find navy more soothing, and just as slimming FYI.

I won Glam’s Xmas Giveaway (thanks again for all your Google +1s!) where I wanted to win a pair of trousers that I’d had my eye on a long time. I even contacted the retailer and asked them to hold it, such was my belief that I would hound enough people to win (which I did). And it was still there…until they announced the winner on Wednesday 21st, and the trousers had gone. GONE. GONE. GONE. Sad face. Apparently they forgot. WELL SCREW YOU.

Glam allowed me to choose an alternate prize, and in the spirit of all-gifts-should-be-practical and the fact that I have really bad shoulder pain from carrying too much stuff in my handbag and that both hands should be free in a metropolitan urban environment, I chose a Fred Perry navy backpack.

Whoops, fluff.

In the spirit of navy gifts, my good friend and designer of amazing bespoke dresses Lira Leirner made me an incredible navy wool bow tie as a Christmas gift and gave it to me before she threw her hot chocolate (thankfully it was cold by then) all over my chinos.

New Years Day 2012

Alas the camera battery died before I could take a photo of the front, but I shall outfit post it up soon.

I’m sure you’re also wondering how I took super fly photos (considering I don’t own a camera). I’m currently reviewing the Fujifilm X10 – so expect a full post on that soon.

That’s Not The Only Thing That’ll Be Fake During Sex: The Louis Vuitton Condom

HAW.

So I saw this on ONTD and I was all ‘Whuuuttt no’ but Marc Jacobs has Marc by Marc Jacobs condoms, and he’s the creative director of Louis Vuitton so you know, this could work. Granted they cost a dollar fifty (from the Marc by Marc Jacobs store) each as opposed to $68. But what better way to show how much you care for a girl by um, wrapping up in a designer johnny. You not only wanna protect her from getting knocked up, you want to do it while making her forget that you didn’t supersize her fries at McDonalds, and refused to pay for a taxi home – instead waited for the night bus and didn’t offer your jacket. And a portion of the proceeds are meant to go to amFAR. Sounds..about right.

Imagine my sadness when I found out that the Louis Vuitton Condom is not affiliated with our favourite luggage maker, but Georgian architect (and all around LV fan it seems) Irakli Kiziria who, um, obviously got tired of waiting for 10 years for a project to see fruition, decided to dabble in unauthorised contraception. How long will this go before he gets, well, cockblocked?

I wish I could be witty enough to make some more puns and wisecracks, but I think Ghana Celebrities saves me the trouble and does it best.

The first question I asked myself when I read this was; how will a man decide which chick is worth a Louis Vuitton condom and who is worth the ordinary stinking Durex? I nearly slapped the last guy who tried to used non-scented condom on me, I hate the ordinary scent of condoms and it becomes worse if mixed with the STICKY WHITISH THINK…LOL

Check out the comments too. Classic.

Keeping it British #MTVEMA

Although I wouldn’t say Jessie J is my musical cup of tea (although I do think she has an amazing voice and is very talented) I do like how she champions and wears a lot of British designers, with a lot of them just starting out. It’s extremely difficult to be a designer at any time, let alone in this current economic climate. Having an musical artist wear your pieces, is a huge coup and gets you great exposure, especially when your star just keeps on rising, like Jessie J. She also managed to do 4 outfits in one night, and my favourite was definitely this one.

When she stepped out on the red (pink!) carpet after her performance, she was wearing a Falguni and Shane Peacock printed dress with white Dr Martens, as she can’t wear heels as her foot is still healing. This was definitely my favourite look from her and I love that print. Shows how you can keep an outfit simple, but also striking.

A LFW Presentation you all can go to (and should go): Charlie May SS11 14th September 2011

Us bloggers do not only have one string to our bow. Charlie May aka Girl A La Mode is a fellow blogger, and designer, launching her first RTW collection this London Fashion Week for SS11. And everyone can go. All you have to do is RSVP to INFO@CHARLIE-MAY.CO.UK

Lots of people ask me how you can go to shows and the ilk, but you require press accreditation. But there are many great smaller designers, such as Charlie May, which you should so check out.

The Style Crusader also has some great behind the scenes photos of Charlie in her studio also.

If you’re based in London or the surrounding areas and you can make it down, I highly suggest you do.

Tea with Missoni

I realise that it is a coffee set. But it’s so cute. And I’m English, I don’t drink coffee.

Yes I will be in the US when the Missoni x Target collab comes out. How very exciting.

But Barney, will we ever go to Zumba?

This is Barney.

Barney teased me by saying we would go to Zumba, and then withdrew his invitation saying it wasn’t his “thing.” So I made a pact with Barney. He promised me if I get some press for the following event, he will go with me to Zumba. Repost, tell your friends, retweet it on Twitter, post it on your Facebook.

Please all, won’t you make him take me to Zumba?

Grind London, Bounty and Kevin Morosky have teamed up to design The Forbidden Dance capsule T-shirt collection, launching at the Red Bull Studios on 23 July with Bounty DJs and special live performances.

Y’all invited. SO GET BARNEY TO ZUMBA.

Mean and Stylish T-Shirts

As I’ve got older I’ve begun to appreciate a good t-shirt. That may be a strange sentiment, but it’s true. I no longer relegate them to nocturnal stylings but also now wear them outside my bedroom. It may be because I’m too lazy to change, or I don’t have a wardrobe and can’t find half my clothes. Who knows. Who knows indeed.

I also tend to wear t-shirts where everyone feels the need to read them. Or stare at my chest. Which makes these new t-shirts by the charmingly cute Fanny + Jessy all the more fitting.

I won’t be wearing the ‘Suck It’ t-shirt however.

Remember the Don’t Panic piece I did on these ladies a while back? You’re probably lusting after their fringed and metallic confections but can’t fathom the finances for them. Thankfully the delightful duo has just launched their Tee Shop so you can get the F+J look and still pay your rent.

‘I Hope You Die Soon’ and ‘WTF’ T-Shirts, from £30 – Fanny + Jessy Tee Shop

Now that’s how you do a graduate collection

My favourite piece, a digital print (yes really!) crushed velvet jacket.

I did the unthinkable yesterday. I paid for a fashion show. Yes, dear readers, I can hear your gasps from here. Why, you exclaim, your hands fluttering to your bosom in distress. Well, because it was a graduate show at London College of Fashion and I was supporting my friend. (Any other time, hell to the N-O) My uber talented, wonderful and extremely gracious friend, Sanna Naapuri, fashion and print designer.

Sanna’s speciality is digital print, and she’s already worked for the likes of Matthew Williamson, Victoria Beckham and the late, great Alexander McQueen (she worked on his final collection) while also winning the Peugeot Design Award 2010 at the NRJ Fashion Awards for her collection ‘She Creatures.’

What more can I say? You may think I’m biased because she is a good friend of mine, but I say, take a look at her pieces and judge for yourself. She’s gonna go far.
