I DID A SHOOT WITH NATALIA TENA AND IT’S OUT TODAY

Dear readers,

I apologise for my absence. I have been away, I’ve also been shooting loads, and also I’m working on changing up some parts of my blog. Please bear with me while I finish tweaking all the loose ends.

However, I now also have a Tumblr for random bits and pieces. Think of it as a way to tide you over until I can start posting propah again. Like a thinly sliced apple to a glass of fine port (I don’t drink port, but it sounds like such fun!)

I will be back properly soon, but for now, enjoy a shoot I did with Squiz Hamilton for FAULT Fall 2011 where I styled actress Natalia Tena.

Behind the scenes photos can be found on my Facebook page.

WTF Harper’s Bazaar – Georgia May Jagger as Margaret Thatcher

Yeah, cos punks were the only ones who cared about Maggie Thatcher taking away milk.

A friend of mine, Katie Antoniou just tweeted a link of Georgia May Jagger (Jerry & Mick’s daughter FYI) as Maggie Thatcher for Harper’s Bazaar US. Shot by Terry Richardson.

Just WTF. It looks exactly how you’d imagine. Wack. It looks wack. I am aware I stopped using that term when I was 17 but it’s appropriate. Also all the schmaltzy typical “British” things are slightly, if not moderately offensive.

What is Alexander Wang doing in this editorial? #headdesk

FAKE NIXON

I like the styling though.

Hello, this is my day job.

Apparently no-one is sure of what I do. In all honesty, I’m not even sure what I do most of the time. I will make a handy list to clear up any confusion.

I am a:
- Stylist
- Journalist
- Blogger
- Social Media consultant

Anyhoo, I have some new work out in Schön! Magazine 13 where I shot an editorial named “Heliotrope” with Grant Thomas. (thus named because it’s purple)

You can see it by clicking here or on the picture.

Downton Abbey Sisters in Vogue UK August 2011

I was late to the Downton Abbey game, mainly because I can never get near the TV in my house, but my good friend Laura just introduced me to it and I was enthralled! I can’t wait until the new season starts this September but for now, let the forthcoming editorial in August’s issue of Vogue tide you over…

Bey, that’s not how you cook a steak

You have to wait for the coals to burn down to white first. However you can use some of the foil from your Gareth Pugh ensemble to make a drip tray.

The New Fashion Gimmick: Asian Models

What do you do when you get bored of ‘fatties’ (read: plus size) models and having them naked in every editorial because you can’t find any samples to fit them? You move on to the next gimmick – Asian models!

Vogue says “Asian models are redefining traditional concepts of beauty.” Sorry, what? Because they’re not white and or/blonde, I guess they are redefining Vogue’s concept of beauty, by sticking eight models in a two-page editorial and having the rest of the magazine lily white. But obviously not shaking it up enough, as all eight models have the exact same hair and make-up. Remember how ignorant people say all Asians look the same? This isn’t helping.

I’ve spoken many times about the lack of diversity in models. When casting, I’ve asked several major agencies to send me their Asian/Black/mixed models, and I’ve received all of two cards. What is this nonsense? Are models of minority ethnic origin not as beautiful as their Caucasian counterparts? Are they going to be always pigeonholed into stereotypical campaigns and editorials?

I think it’ll be interesting to see how many other magazines pick this up, and start shooting Asian only editorials. Why does there need to be a distinction? Fashion may not be diverse but your audience sure is.

Case in point: Plus size editorials, see here, here, here, here, and here!

As Crystal Renn says can’t we just call everyone models? Why must there be an extraneous label on everything?

Peter Parker, Annie & Vogue

I’m not sure if I like this or not. This editorial didn’t actually need Annie Leibovitz to photograph it, but could have got any green photographer and a crack team of studio technicians. Tis a shame.

See the rest of the editorial here.

Simplicity and Class

One of my favourite editorials of the year so far from W Magazine.
