I Only Care About What’s On Your Feet #nyfw

Accessory Spotting on the Street

With every fashion week, you get hundreds of people toting SLRs (hundreds may be an overestimate) frantically snapping away for the in the hopes of becoming the next Sartorialist. Whatever. I don’t care about what you’re wearing, (and my favourite street style snappers are Bill Cunningham and Tommy Ton). I only care for your accessoires. (I’m hoping that’s the French)

So what and where are the most stylish & inspirational street in the world? #fromthestreets

To celebrate the launch of the Swatch New Gent Lacquered watch, Swatch has teamed up with the biggest fashion magazines from the world over, which is 17 fashion magazines in 8 different markets, from i-D, Dazed, Nylon, Qvest, Vice to Hong Kong’s Milk, to pick their favourite streets. You can vote for your favourite street #fromthestreets here and the competition ENDS 6PM BST (12PM CET). The street with the most votes gets to throw a once in a lifetime street party which you can also win a chance to go to.

There are so many streets one has yet to visit in the world. There’s so many places I haven’t actually visited in the world either. As each ambassador from each country makes their own video and conducts their own photoshoot to sell their street, a wealth of content is created – and you get to see their country through your eyes.

For London (I make a whoop here) – our ambassadors are Jamal Edwards of SBTV, who has picked Acton for Dazed’s entry.

21 year old Jamal Edwards, if you don’t know, is the founder of SB:TV (and yes, is in that Google Chrome advert), hailed by Q Magazine as one of the most influential people in music in March (and perhaps the new Simon Cowell, just hope he doesn’t hoist up his trousers that high) and a new entry on The Sunday Times Rich List. Jamal does personify the #fromthestreets brand message exceptionally well.

All the videos shot are incredibly interesting, with tons of fantastic imagery. You can vote for your favourite #fromthestreets street until 6PM BST tonight/12PM CET – incidentally when the competition on TSoS to WIN a Swatch New Gent Lacquered Watch ends

To enter: Simply RT this post on Twitter (or any of my Swatch #fromthestreets posts. (click the Twitter share button at the bottom or this link ) or you can do it the old fashioned way and email winstuff@thescienceofstyle.com. Competition ENDS on April 30th 2012 at 6pm BST (12PM CET)

Yes You Can Also Win a Swatch New Gent Lacquered Watch (from me!) #fromthestreets

A lot of people admire items I wear or have and get upset because I tell them I got it free. How about you do my job(s) and WALK A MILE IN MY SHOES? They may fall off, because I have big feet. Also I defy you to survive on 4 hours of sleep an night, work all day then hit up events, head home, edit and write and go to bed at 2am. I DEFY YOU!

That’s only a few people who say things like that to me. The majority of you are awesome people, and I have some really top notch readers. That’s why I’m offering you the chance to win a Swatch New Gent Lacquered watch in a colour of your choice! I have the red, but grow large, PICK ANYONE YOU WANT.

GRIND (Getting Rich Is No Dream) in Don’t Panic

As usual, click either image. This week I have soundbites, with no sound. I believe those are called quotes.

No Checked Shirts – Great Success!

It rained, it poured, but I still went on my mission to find people who didn’t succumb to the cult of check.

And today my photo slam was published on Don’t Panic, read my mission statement, and the street style I came across along the way.

And thanks to all the people who took part and Mannray Powell, the trusty photographer who joined me on my mission.

No Checked Shirts w/ Don’t Panic and Kangol

I’ve been asked many times why I have such a disliking for checked shirts (or plaid to my American cousins). The fact that it is the staple garment of the hipster uniform, means wherever I go looks like Topman threw up, ate some Skittles, and then threw up again. The surfeit of the overlapping colours offends my eyes and sensibility greatly.

I used to like checked shirts; the old flannel ones are comfortable and homely. Now – I just think wistfully of the bygone era. I get called a hater because I’m told that I don’t like it because everyone else likes it. Untrue, I like lots of things that other people like, like skinny jeans (not on guys) and insane hats.

“I must confess/I really do detest
Checked Shirts”

To me, checked shirts are only good for two things.
1. Impromptu Picnics
and;
2. Putting out fires

With every Tom, Dick, Harry, Sally, Florian in possession of one, or several this has got to stop. Y’all look like Topman threw up on you.

Don’t Panic and myself are running the ‘NO CHECKED SHIRTS’ photo slam on Sunday 2 May between 11am-6pm by the Sunday Upmarket in Brick Lane where I will be picking out supremely stylish individuals who DON’T rock a checked shirt in a photo slam.

If you are wearing one, and you want to be in the picture, you gotta take it off. But don’t worry about hiding your modesty. Kangol, streetwear hat surveyors supreme have provided some stylin’ hats from their SS10 collection which you photo subjects will be rocking in the photos.

Pictures will be uploaded to Don’t Panic Online on the following Tuesday, the 4th of May. The first 8 to spot themselves and email in win a hat from Kangol’s SS10 collection.

But not only that, 3 winners will also be picked who exemplify street style and individuality will win an exclusive hat from the Kangol x Liberty collaboration.

Leave the tablecloth at home or do some sit-ups or shade in your abs Robert Pattinson-style, and pop down and look for me and my photog between 11 and 6 on Sunday – I’ll be the one burning an effigy of flannel. Or follow me on twitter.com/thisisthebang to find out where I’ll be moving around to.

Check out the event details on Facebook here. And no this will not be another American Apparel. The fact I have discounted checked shirts has dramatically decreased my audience by 87%*

*statistics proven by no-one.
