Watch David Blaine Get (Almost) Electrocuted (I mean Electrified) This Weekend!

David Blaine: Electrified Press Conference by Intel Ultrabook

Wait David Blaine is still relevant? (Was that rude, I regret nothing) I thought he was in retirement, but when the invitation to his press conference for ELECTRIFIED dropped into my inbox, I was much too curious not to go. The possibility that he might get electrocuted was a huge bonus.

This trailer tells you nothing so don’t watch it.

On a rainy Tuesday on Pier 54, a bunch of journalists huddled under a tent while David Blaine explained what he was doing and reminded us that he still has a mortgage to pay why he was doing it. I knew I wouldn’t remember so I filmed it. He said he was inspired by Tesla (what what) and he wanted to recreate that scene from The Prestige (sic). Personally I was more bothered about the waste of energy. Global warming anyone?

Don’t get me wrong, I used to have a major crush on David Blaine. So much so I considered standing under his Glass Box in Tower Bridge with a sign saying I would take him for a Big Mac after he got out. Then I saw him throw his literal shit sack out the box and I went off him.

That is a groan you hear, because the bathroom thing came up. *shudder*

Blaine gets in a special chainmail suit (the kind divers wear when they go diving with Great Whites) and is enclosed in seven Tesla coils which are transmitting (transponding?) a million volts of electricity. One important thing to note is that Blaine is not allowed to touch his face, so has to stand there with his arms in the air for 72 hours, a bit like an electric Messiah, because he might electrocute himself.

Totes amaze brah.

The possibility for shenanigans is too great, but I will resist. You might think it looks a bit crap, but we press did not get the full show, because why would we. NOBODY CARES ABOUT US. Also because, it was raining, they were still building it, etc etc. He ends this on Monday with a “shocking” finale. (PUN INTENDED)

Deal With It

Benetton “The Art of Knit” Pop Up

Benetton "The Art of Knit" Pop Up, Crosby St, NY

I popped along to Benetton’s first ever pop up concept store, The Art of Knit in New York’s SoHo (area so named because it’s south of Houston Street. Soho in London is thought to named after a hunting cry). I know things.

I do have a confession to make. I enjoy summer because it’s brighter and the longer days and it’s warmer, but I cannot deal with extremes of weather. What can I say, I’m a Brit. Mild is how we like it best. Too much sun gives me a migraine. I just got an extra freckle because of the bloody American sun! It may not be a surprise that I’m waiting for cooler weather to come. Mainly because it’s really humid. But also so I can layer up.

Why do I like layering? Because I like to wear more clothes. Summer requires a lot less clothing, and it’s hard to showcase my fabulous wardrobe which is understandably, tailored for cooler climes. Namely, knitwear. I love a good cardigan. I fear these words will come back to haunt me as the weather turns and I start whining about how cold it is.

Upon arriving, I was greeted by this:

Needless to say I was quite tickled because I am a pervert. The rather saucy sculptures, named LANA SUTRA were created by artist Erik Ravelo, who is part of FABRICA, the art collective who designed the space and the pieces in the pop up. The store is blocked by colour and men’s and womenswear are all mixed together. Upon entering the store assistant gleefully pointed out that I matched the first (green) display. That was completely unintentional.

Similar to this, but a lot more blinding.

Correct grammar. I wept tears of joy.

Rokit x TSoS: If you want to see the window – go NOW (before this weekend)

The Rokit Covent Garden window installation will be up until the 2nd of September – the end of this week. That’s very sad for me. If you’re in the area, please go by and see it. It will amuse you for all of a minute and a half.

You can read my visual diary here – The Rokit x TSoS Story.

The Hermes Kellydoscope will teach you a lesson in how to look after your personal effects.

If like me, you fling things into your bag with reckless abandon and little to no care, that may change after you experience the Kellydoscope at Selfridges.

The Kellydoscope will offer visitors the chance to enter the giant replica and experience life as an accessory in the luxury handbag via multi-sensory video technology and special effects.

Have sympathy for your phone, keys, make-up bag (and in my case, a random apple, straws and my DS) after stepping inside the 4 metre high handbag, which features three short videos, that show a woman running around town, and what it feels like to be inside the bag when she’s dancing around her handbag or whacking a mugger in the face or something.

Just thinking about it makes me feel a bit queasy.

From Friday 19 November until Tuesday 30 November at Selfridges, London.
